  • Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes, I do. I am happy to set up a free 15-minute meet & greet over the phone where I can answer any questions you may have. Reach out anytime!
  • What is the fee for therapy sessions?
My fee for individual therapy is $175 per 50 minute session. I have a limited number of sliding scale availabilities and offer reduced fees that are determined by your individual financial situation. Payment is accepted by e-transfer (to sonya@artofwisdomcounselling.com) or credit card. If payment is sent through e-transfer, it is expected prior to the start of your appointment or immediately afterwards. A credit card is required on file either way in the event of any late cancellations/no shows. Once payment is received, I will provide a receipt for your records which can be used for reimbursement if you are covered through insurance.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
My cancellation policy requires at least 48 hours advance notice. Appointments cancelled or changed with less notice will incur the full session fee. A credit card will be kept on file for these reasons.
  • How do I know if my insurance covers your services?
Most insurance companies will cover counselling services. As I am a Registered Social Worker, you will need to have coverage under "Social Work or Social Worker". It's best to check with your insurance company directly. You can submit a claim using the invoice I provide you. If you need any support in the process, let me know!
  • What are the benefits of therapy?
Therapy can have many benefits, including improving your overall well-being: Learn skills that help you understand your thoughts and feelings better Have space to reflect on your life experiences Gain deeper insight into yourself and the life you seek Feel safe when sharing your story Transform as an individual Lead a rich and meaningful life
  • Are there any risks to therapy?
Although the benefits outweigh the risks, attending therapy can have its challenges. You might find yourself feeling worse after a session because certain things have come up to the surface that otherwise may not. Therapy is part of an ongoing commitment to yourself, and it may take time to see big changes.
  • What's the difference between counselling and therapy?
Counselling usually refers to short- to medium- term support. For example, if your goal is to reduce stress at work or discuss a present conflict with someone, you may be able to achieve this within a certain number of sessions. Therapy, or psychotherapy, refers to more long-term support. For example, if you would like to work through the impact of childhood trauma, you may need a lot more time to explore this. However, you can work on both types of goals with your therapist because many people seek help for more than one thing. That is why you could see "counselling" and "therapy" used interchangeably.
  • I've tried counselling before and I didn't find it helpful. How do I know this time will be different?
If you've had an unhelpful experience with counselling, you may feel reluctant to try again. My job is to try my best to make you comfortable through open and honest communication. But, there may be approaches I use or things I say that you may not like. And sometimes people just don't connect no matter what! If you ever have any concerns, it's important to share them with me. Also, I offer a free 15-minute phone meeting to see if we are a good fit depending on what supports you need.
